2:15–3:15pm | Debating the Future of PAMA and Order Entry Clinical Decision Support Using the Appropriateness Criteria
While order entry clinical decision support (OE CDS) technology has helped some hospitals reduce unnecessary tests, standardize Reasons for Imaging exams, and lower imaging costs, other hospitals have only implemented the bare minimum functionality to be compliant with the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA) requirement for Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) clinical decision support mechanism (CDSM) consultation. PAMA deadlines have been postponed several times before. Sparks will fly during this debate on the likely outcome of PAMA, and the role of OE CDS in daily practice and electronic prior authorization as national sites implement and update their OE CDS content.
