Join us on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 for the 2024 ACR® RFS Medical Student Symposium, a one-day virtual experience organized by fellow medical students.

Throughout the day, you will explore the field of radiology and hear from a diverse group of speakers on topics including, but not limited to, matching into radiology, subspecialties in radiology and the future of radiology.

Topics of Spotlight

  • Subspecialties in radiology: Radiology is not just sitting in a dark room. Attendees will learn about subspecialties in the field, gain insight into the patient-facing aspects and learn about the role of radiologists in patient care.
  • Pathway to residency: Medical students will hear from current residents and radiologists about their own personal journeys to radiology and advice for current and future applicants. Get your questions answered at the Interactive Q&A session!
  • Women in radiology: Attendees will hear from impactful women in radiology about how they are making their mark on the field and the importance of gender diversity within the specialty.

Career Pathways in Radiology

Learn about the various career options you can pursue after finishing your radiology residency/fellowship.

Artificial Intelligence

Discover how AI is being used in radiology today and future directions for evolving technologies. 

Advances in Imaging

Hear about exciting research being discussed in the radiology community. 

Keynote Speaker

William T. Herrington, MD, FACR

Originally from Augusta, Georgia, William Herrington attended MCG, earning his MD in 1979. He had an internship in surgery at Oakland Naval Regional Medical Center with operational tour in 1980/1981 Marine Battalion Surgeon 1/6 2nd Marine Division. He did his residency in radiology Bethesda Naval Hospital, serving as Chief Resident senior year under Steve Amis. After completing his Navy obligation at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, he returned to Athens, GA, to private practice, where he has remained since 1986. He has held all officer positions at the Georgia Radiology Society and received their Gold Medal. Dr. Herrington previously served as Council Speaker and currently chairs the ACR Commission on Membership and Communications. He is currently the President of the ACR.

Case Competition

  • Submit a case presentation for the case competition!
  • Students are encouraged to submit case presentations that showcase unique radiology cases related to the theme “Equitable and Efficient Practices in Diagnostic Imaging.” The selected topic delves into practices and mechanisms that can be implemented by radiologists to improve patient outcomes and global health.
  • The top 3 cases will be selected to present at the symposium and win prizes. Learn more about the competition here.
