Join us on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023 for the ACR® Medical Student Symposium, a one-day virtual experience organized by fellow medical students.

Throughout the day, you will explore the rapidly evolving field of radiology and hear from a diverse group of speakers on topics including, but not limited to: diagnostic and interventional radiology, the role of radiologists in promoting health equity, and matching into radiology.

Topics of Spotlight

  • The Field of Radiology and Subspecialities: Radiology is not just sitting in a dark room. Attendees will learn about subspecialties in the field, gain insight into the patient-facing aspects, and learn about how imaging can assist in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Pathway to Radiology: Medical students will hear from current residents and radiologists about their journeys to radiology and advice on submitting a successful application. Non-traditional career pursuits will also be explored.
  • Equity Topics in Radiology: Health disparities extend themselves to the field of radiology. Attendees will learn about existing initiatives and what steps future radiologists can take to address the needs of underserved communities, both inside and outside the realm of medical imaging.

Radiology in Medical School

Discover what resources are available for you to build basic imaging interpretation skills as a medical student and impress on rotations.

 Keynote Speaker

Howard B. Fleishon, MD, MMM, FACR

Howard Fleishon is from Philadelphia, PA where he did his medical school and radiology training. He has spent the majority of his career as a clinical radiologist and practice leader in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Fleishon is now a professor at Emory University. Interests during his career have centered on leadership and management in radiology. He has served in a variety of roles in the College including a past Chair of the Practice Leaders Committee, and Council Speaker. He founded and was the first Chair of the Radiology Advocacy Network. Dr. Fleishon is the immediate past Chair Board of Chancellors and currently proudly serving as ACR President.

Case Competition 

  • Submit a case presentation for the case competition! This year's theme will be Complex Cases in Radiology — Cases where radiology was the determining factor in making a difficult diagnosis. 
  • The top three cases will be selected to present at the symposium and win prizes. Learn more about the competition on our agenda page
