Agenda

10am: Welcome

10:15–11am: AI in Radiology:  Climbing out of the “Trough of Disillusionment” and Embracing the “Slope of Enlightenment”

Current and near future requirements and constraints will require radiology practices to continuously improve and demonstrate the value they add to the healthcare enterprise; groups will be required to compete in an environment where the goal will be measurable improvements in efficiency, productivity, quality, and safety.  There has been great interest (as well as a bit of fear and considerable hype) regarding the application of artificial intelligence approaches to help improve the radiology value proposition.  While radiologists now have a more sanguine perspective with respect to AI in radiology, many are now beginning to wonder if the benefits of AI in radiology have been “overpromised” and “underdelivered.” This “trough of disillusionment,” while predictable and inevitable, has begun to complicate many groups’ AI implementation expectations and strategies.   This discussion will attempt to provide a “reality check” on how radiologists and our partners might more quickly “climb out of the trough,” and start the journey of “enlightened appropriate consumption” of AI in radiology.

Keynote Speaker: Paul Chang, MD, FSIIM, Professor & Vice Chair, Radiology Informatics, University of Chicago Medicine

11–11:45am: What is AI Governance?

During this session we'll explore the questions radiologists should ask when thinking about bringing AI into their practice: What are the risks? What are the ethical considerations? What is AI governance?

Moderator: Bibb Allen Jr., MD, FACR

Speakers:
  • Dania Daye, MD: What is AI Governance?
  • Po-Hao Chen, MD, MBA: From AI to ROI - Building a Value Proposition

11:45–noon: Break

Noon–12:45pm: Choosing the Right AI Product: Considerations Before You Purchase

How do you choose the right AI product? From assessing current needs to knowing what AI products are available, join our speakers to learn what to consider when selecting AI for your practice.

Moderator: Keith J. Dreyer, DO, PhD, FACR

Speakers:
  • Christoph Wald, MD, PhD, MBA, FACR: Needs Assessment and Asking the Right Questions
  • Keith J. Dreyer, DO, PhD, FACR: What AI Products Are Out There?

12:45–1:45pm: Lunch

1:45–3pm: Evaluating AI Models for Your Practice

Once an AI model has been selected, it's crucial to ensure it works properly on your patient population. This session will focus on building local data sets to test AI, data security, patient privacy, and ACR's AI tools that are available for model evaluation.

Moderator: Bernardo C. Bizzo, MD, PhD

Speakers:
  • Chintan Shah, MD: Does It Work? Building a Local Dataset to Test AI
  • Bibb Allen Jr., MD, FACR: ACR AI Tools for Evaluating AI
  • Tessa Cook, MD, PhD: Using AI Responsibly: Data Security, Patient Privacy and Safety

3–3:15pm: Break

3:15–5pm: Deploying and Monitoring AI Models: What to Expect

What should radiologists expect when deploying and monitoring AI models? Join this session to review the implications of cloud vs. on-premise, marketplace vs. single vendor, integration with EMR and PACS, as well as what could go wrong during deployment. We’ll also cover ongoing monitoring with Assess-AI and other related ACR initiatives.

Moderators: Po-Hao Chen, MD, MBA and John Mongon, MD

Speakers:
  • John Mongan, MD: Infrastructure Considerations for AI Purchases
  • Chris Treml: Integration with EMR and PACS
  • Axel Wismueller, MD: What Could Go Wrong?
  • Laura Coombs, PhD: Working with Assess AI
  • Mike Tilkin: Other ACR Initiatives

5–5:15pm: Closing Remarks
